POEMS

By B. G. Hallam

KYLE

Sitting quietly, sun shinning, a warm afternoon breeze
Church bells far away, birds sing their song in the trees
Rolling hills stretch into the distance and never end
In the field walking without a care is my closest friend

Power and gentleness combined in one loving soul
Cheekily playing in the afternoon sun, keeping control
Not a care in the world knowing I'm there
These wonderful moments that I love to share

Just sitting and watching is pleasure indeed
How graceful, how happy, he is all I need
In harmony we walk together in the noon day sun
Relaxing and playing having a great deal of fun

Whatever happens he knows, I feel sure
That I love him now and for evermore
He's forgiving whenever I get it wrong
Always coming back for more before to long

Two independent souls lost without each other
Sensitive and insecure we both look for one another
What he gets from me I get so much more to be fair
This warm and happy relationship is always there

My hand stretches out to softly offer his favourite treat
Gently and lovingly he takes it, he always wants to eat
With just enough force to munch, he tickles my hand
Looking for more, he gently asks, it's not a demand

Can you ever find in life someone who
Will always come back whatever you do
Will be there for you through thick and thin
Giving you a warm feeling from within

Just to make sure you know he pulls those funny faces
Runs off to say I'm independent, to his favourite places
Then turns to see where you are to keep the connection
You smile and understand without sound, the affection

Stronger than ten men, he's a gentle, caring saint
Carrying me wherever I wish without complaint
He gives everything even when exhausted and tired
That little bit more, whatever I ask or desired

Oh how things would be, if the whole world
Could learn from such devotion, love unfurled
Everyone could learn from this gentle man
Then, without doubt, they would all be a fan

I'm like a rag doll against the power of his muscles
Just a toss of the head sending me flying to Brussels
Yet he snuggles his head next to me pushing with care
Just enough to make me move and know he is there

Excitement and the rush of wind in your hair
The exhilaration of speed and power we are a good pair
Galloping through the countryside with speed
That's the best for us, free and happy indeed

Yet how is it that someone so small as me
Gives him comfort as he snorts at what I can't see
As he sees danger in an innocent shadow just near
I'm there and our friendship comforts the fear

We laugh together in the open air
We play together in the meadow so fair
It's all about how he makes me smile
He simply is my best friend, my Kyle

LOVE, LANGUAGE AND LEADERSHIP

The morning mist slowly disappears in the light
As the sun makes its way over the mountains
The fresh prairie air gently floating in your hair
Your heart is happy as you hear that familiar sound

Through the green grass they emerge, quiet not loud
Walking with magnificence so proud
Cautious and curious they make little sound
Your horses your friends, you like them around

One at the back is strong and alert
You know his name and he is pawing the dirt
Both ears, both eyes, he sees your gaze from afar
And slowly walks over to greet you, he's the star

You love this stallion so tall and so strong
You love the smells, the touch, the feeling so long
You would love a relationship that people desire
You would love a partnership that burns like a fire

Something is missing, things do not rhyme
You have felt there is a problem for a long time
Something is wrong but you tie him instead
You bind him with leather around his head

If only you could talk to him on this day
If only he had learnt, what would you say
If only you had known the language to show
Maybe your partnership would really grow

They show care, love and a great deal of drive
There are leaders and followers so herds can survive
They communicate easily through gesture not sound
They learn this as they grow, it's not really profound

Maybe it's you that needs to change
To learn more, your ways to re-arrange
Because the horses already know their language for sure
They can do everything; you don't need show them more

You need to communicate what you want in their way
If only you could establish you are the alpha today
If only you could establish your leadership style
If it comes from love, it will stay for a while

Strength and confidence is what you need to show
Communicated clearly, if you want things to go
Repeated with patience for both you and the horse
So in harmony you both know what is happening of course

The steps are not easy but the start has begun
Once you stop blaming the horse and look what you've done
When you realise what you ask they can already do
Just not when you want it, when it conveniences you

They can trot and canter all day in the field
They can lower their heads and can certainly yield
They can do all the fancy footwork already, it's no task
Its just you don't know how to ask

So in that morning mist on the field, amongst the fern
You can change your life by understand who is to learn
Pick up their language and with love and care
Use it to communicate where you want him to bare

It is his pleasure to show you he can play
And follow a confident leader all day
You have his attention and respect in some way
But you need to keep it as he may stray

You will be constantly tested as you are now
Part of the herd in the top spot, but somehow
He will try to show you he is the man
And take over when you let him, if he can

But the feeling of partnership is so beautifully felt
When it all works in harmony, your heart will melt
Your heart smiles so warm as you start to say
With Love, Language and Leadership you will save the day
