SAVVY FUN DAY / TOURNAMENT
18th May 2008

AT MOULTON COLLEGE

EARLY MORNING

5am and I am sitting in bed wide awake, darn I may as well get up. So I grab a coffee and text Carol Bussey asking her to bring her hula hoop (after discovering mine were locked up in the horsebox which is locked up in the garage, ho hum!!)
So not expecting a reply I jumped as my phone beeped and boy was I surprised to get a return message from Carol so quickly (I was already sitting up in bed with a cup of tea she later told me).
A bright sunny day dawned which was great considering the rain we have had and I set off for the college. Very quickly everyone arrived and chipped in to help set up the props. Wasn't it great to see new students of PNH to the group, joining us at Moulton College for a hive of activity that created not just fun but a day of building those learning blocks and making new friends. The day was split up, playing with props till 12pm then we broke for lunch for 45min. The tournament started at 1pm and finished around 2.20pm giving everyone about 30min play afterwards. So who was there..

THE FUN AND GAMES

There was Carol Bussey with her Coloured horse Max, at Pre - Level 1 they shone through with their horsemanship skills. A lovely surprise for Carol coming in with a score of 70 to finish in 2nd place. Using good judgement to tackle tasks at her level rather than try for the extra points and risk losing them all together.

Carole Ryan with Rocky, WOW!!!! I can't believe how much Carole has progressed with Rocky. He is like a different pony, where was the cheeky chap that reared and bucked and literally did as he pleased. Here instead Rocky is willing and playing and when Carole took him to do some liberty it was amazing to see him ears pricked trotting directly to Carole as she asked him to her.

Carole came in joint 4th place of the tournament along side Moira Dixon with scores of 50. Now Carole and Moira took on the tasks at the higher level and only things like touching the pole, not quite maintaining the pattern lost them points. However the skills displayed were clearly evident as their horses played along.

Ruth Cross with Sorcy did well coming in 3rd with 60 points, Sorcy just wasn't going to go sideways over the pole and found the yoyo through poles hard. The circling game went very well as did the tarp.

Maddie Gardener came in 1st with 80 points, scoring top marks in the first 2 games put her in a good lead but then dropped in her scores. With others catching up Maddie managed to stick in there and keep her place.

The prizes. the knowledge gained, the fun factor and the joys of being with others having a great time. It wasn't about the winning, it wasn't about prizes. No. it was being with your horse and communicating.

While all this was going on we had Claire Green who travelled all the way up from Essex and who helped take the scores in the tournament.

Here she is chatting with Carol

Many spectators came to watch and the words "I'm totally blown away with what I am seeing, it's amazing" was just one of the comments.
